So do you still wear watches?

I haven't worn a watch in years. I have stuck to using my cellphone to check the time. Especially now that I have a nice newere Samsung flip camera phone that is really small. I take it with me virtually anywhere I go. I had an older bulky nokia phone that wasn't very convenient. Now the samsung phone I use is so small and light weight I can just pack it in and go without thinking about it.

    How about you?

  2. Not anymore. I rarely check the time unless I really have to or there happens to be a clock around.

I'm baffled by the concept of not wearing a watch. I mean, I always have a cell phone on me but I don't want to have to drag it out to check the time when I can just glance at my wrist. That'd be like hauling out an old-time pocket watch. My watch also will tell me the date, which my phone does not (plus the display on my phone is normally hard to read, unless I unlock it.) The alternative of looking around for a clock or other time display somewhere seems wholly inadequate, unless you just really don't care what time it is anyway.

Never was a watch person, won't own a cell phone, or an ipod. My pda doesn't display the time unless I go to the main menu and click on clock or something like that.

My Computer has clock, as well as, the Cable Box, the alarm clock, the stereo, the micro wave, the stove, one of the 4 wall clocks, the stereo in the car, and every 3rd bill board I drive past.

I believe the last thing I need is a watch.

You need a wrist phone, so you can answer a simple yes.

GPS and cell phone time keeping has auto update, that reduce the hassle of daylight saving time, twice a year.

I never leave home without a wristwatch. I consider them to be jewelry as well as timekeeping devices.

Up until a few months ago I didn't have a cell phone. My parents gave me a pre-paid cellphone that they bought for an emergency situation and can't really use without my help. I don't really have much use for it either, and rarely take it with me. Even if I did, it would be inconvenient to take it out and turn it on every time I wanted to check the time.

I guess some may find wristwatches uncomfortable, or keep banging their wrist on things, or perhaps they can't wear them at work on account of of safety issues, or because they work in a dirty environment that would ruin a watch. I think that much of the differences is generational. Those of us over 40 already have watches and are used to wearing them, while those under thirty may have always carried a cellpnone from the day they had reason to tell time.

  10. Analog dial watch. Checking time with cell phone requires a conscious effort and a free hand. I only carry a cell phone if I'm going to be away for extended period or if I need a phone. I disabled text when I got the first text spam.

I've never had a wristwatch last more than a week or two. Either I bust it or it just stops working. I used to carry a pocketwatch but it stopped working too. In general I don't pay much attention to time and when I need to, there's always a clock or some electronic device nearby displaying the time.

Of course I use my watch !
Swimming and diving - no problem. Looks a bit stupid jumping into waves with your cellphone ...

And it happens more often that I need the right time, then the need to be available to all and everyone by phone.

I used to wear one 24 hours a day, but not anymore - I take it off when I go to sleep. I can't imagine NOT wearing one.

I got a nice Seiko that I wear all the time. It was a gift from my father before he died almost 10 years ago. I wear it to honour his memory.

I've never worn a watch -- ever. I kept a watch in my backpack in high school and college. I've had a cell phone since 1997, no need for a watch in many years now. Most rooms have computers (and therefore clocks) or wall clocks or devices with built-in clocks. I'm also pretty good at looking at the sun's position in the sky to tell time of day.

    Time is all relative anyway!

I've had one of these, one with a capacity of 300 phone numbers and scheduled events, plus calculator, etc. since the '80s. I loves my geekwatch.

Nope. Took it off for vacation some 15 years ago, and it never came back on. There are so many things that tell the time everywhere all the time, the need for a dedicated device on my arm seems like a complete waste.

Since I don't have a "cellphone/pda/mp3 player", I use my watch. Also, I need to time my lap swimming. Even if I had a cellphone, it wouldn't be very practical for that. And when I'm riding my bike in traffic I'm not going to pull something out of my pocket to see if I'm on schedule. So I wear a watch all day, every day.

One thing that ticked me off with wearing a watch, was that I habitually glanced at it every now and then, just to see what time it was, for no reason at all. And if anyone would ask me 5 seconds after a glance, I'd have to look again, as I never stored the information in my brain.

  25. My watch wearing habits have devolved greatly over the years. I used to wear a watch every day when I went out of the house, probably from ages 16-23. After that I would only wear a watch when I went to work but never on my non-working time. My primary reason was to know what day of the week it was. All my watches (both of them, one fancy one beat-up-able) have to have the day and date displayed.
Almost 3 years ago I had gotten a severe case of poison ivy from working in the yard and my wrists and arms were heavily affected. I stopped wearing a watch all-together at that point and began relying on my cell phone or PDA for time and day/date.
Now, I only wear a watch as an accessory if I need to go to a suit and tie event.

Funny thing is, I really like watches but I am too practical to own things I know I won't use. I have been considering a pocket watch lately though, but more as a life style decoration (even I don't know what I mean by that) than as a time piece.

I spend a good deal of time walking, so a watch is pretty important to me. I bet most people in this thread would be shocked at how few clocks there are "out there".

Yeah, using your cell is a pain in the ass. Then there's those times when you have to turn it off (movies, sensitive electronics, etc.).

This thread's title always bugged me. It should be "do you wear a watch?" or "...wristwatch"

I wear a wristwatch whenever I am awake. I cannot not have something on my left wrist. I might even use it for telling the time occasionally too.

I'm sorry I missed this poll when it was fresh. Helluva few days last week which left me little time to dally.

In 1986 the Seko I'd worn for years refused to work anymore, so being a dedicated watch-wearer, I grappled with buying another mid-grade watch or buying one that would last for the duration. I chose the latter option and, after considerable research, bought a TAG Heuer. That decision was based on how pleased my dad had been when he'd made a similar choice, though I was just a kid at the time.

    I've never regretted it.

When my dad died, my mom gave me his Omega.

    I think I'm covered.
