    in my device manager i get a yellow question mark on the video contoller(vga compatible) but i cant get it to work ever since i did a system restore, any advice appreciated

    Did you try uninstalling the driver, rebooting and reinstalling? You might want to download the latest driver from the video card manufacturer first.

    It may be hard to tell without a proper driver installed, but usually in 'Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Adapter', it will be listed. In Vista, 'Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Adjust screen resolution>Advanced', you should see it listed. Probably a ATI or Nvidia chipset. Video drivers can get corrupted easily. If you received system disks with the computer, it likely has a driver on it also.

    You could also likely just switch to a generic Windows driver and it will work just fine. Until you know make/model and/or chipset of the video card, you won't know which driver to get.
