Did the forum do a global re-initiate of all the logon passwords ??

I tried to log on 4 or 5 times but screen (index screen) kept showing the logon/password
boxes. Then, when I looked down at the bottom on the index page, my user ID was listed,
even though the top of the screen included the usual logon/password boxes.

So, what's going on ?? I had to re-activate my password of 8 years and now I got this new
incrypted-looking password that i'm never gonna remember. Yeah, what trick are you up to
    now, Baldrick ??

Also, I can't seem to make any posts. I keep getting the logon on screen!

EDIT: All this happended while I was in Opera. Never happended before, unless you fixed
it while I just tried to re-log on again, though this time, in Netscape browser, and its
working now, in this browser, so far. I'll try tomorrow, in Opera. maybe it was something
I did on my end here.

I use Opera. The cookies log me in normally, perhaps once a month I need to login manually, either due to corruption or perhaps they've just expired.

I use IE and Firefox and I never need to login in manually. The cookies shouldn't expire...but it could be some bug that I have missed.

I'm Using Opera v9.2, and I've never had this or any kind of problem with it, ever. So I don't
know what caused this to happen. But fwiw, my cmos clock blanked out on me (1/2002) and
I had to re-seat it and reset the time, though I didn't set the year properly. Today, when I
realized this, I reset everything back to their correctness.

I went to the menu bar and selected the Tools\Advanced\Cookies.. and proceeded to search
for videohelp and found it. I deleted it. It only have two cookies that I could tell. There like
thousands of cookies -- thanks google. Anyway. But you can't delete all the cookes from
all the URL links listed in that listing because there is no delete all cookies under Opera

But never the less I still can not log in!

If anybody has any ideas please give steps because I'm getting nowheres with Netscape once
I close down I loose all the tabs and webpages. And thats no fun

    Thanks,

My default setting is no cookies. I allow them for sites I trust if they need them (use F12).

Occasionally I use the cookie manager and weed them out.

wohoo! I'm back in the game guys. Thanks AlanHK, that did the trick. Its grate how
Opera has that save session feature, else I would have lost all my TABs in doing this function.
Thanks Baldrick, for the password tip. I"ll look into it when I get the chance.

I've had login troubles with this site for at least a year now. I quit using IE6 entirely, and have been 100% Firefox. So it saves passwords, and is therefore not as big an issue for me now. It's only two sites that do it. Not sure why.

I think that what might have happend in my case was that my cooke jar got too full and
it went kookoo!! I had thousands of cookies. And when I deleted them all, I did
notice that my Opera browser operates with a little more juice and less memory. But, since
my last lounch of Opera after deleting all the cookies, (this morning) I found another 60
or so in the jar and each cookie has sub-levels of other cookies. There's prob a good
    500 cookies in their, now

I don't know what else to do, except wait for this to happen again, though this is the first
time this has ever happend to me while using Opera, and I recently upgraded to v9.2 if
    that matters.

This is how I do it:

Tools/Preferences Cookies: Select "Never accept cookies".

Now when you visit a site that you want to allow cookies (like this one):

    F12 -- check "enable cookies".
    Reload the page.
A dialogue will come up asking you to allow the cookie. Select the option to allow cookies from the domain.

You will probably get a storm of these, including cookies from advertising banners. Reject those.

    F12 -- UNcheck "enable cookies".

And you can review and delete cookies using Tools/Advanced Cookies to get rid of any you accidentally allowed.

After I've allowed the forums I visit to set their cookies, I only have to mess with cookies a few times a week.
I doubt this has much of a performance effect though. The browser has to deal with the request regardless of whether it allows it. I do it for privacy reasons.

I'm having trouble logging in again !! using Opera.

When I log in, my user name shows up at the bottom of the INDEX page.
But at the top, it still says, login, and I can't make any posts because
it bring up the log on screen again.

    Also, I can't even log out !!

To get to here and make a post I had to lounch my Netscape browser, just like I
    did the last time.

Can you check how many videohelp cookies you have right now? if it's possible with opera. If you have too many it will probably not work.

If I can remember, I'll try

I honestly didn't think it would happen again, but this time, I don't know
what is causing it to happen and I sure would like to know the exact cause
so that I can do something about it or watch for it or something. I don't know

Ahh, I think I know what the problem is. Now that I think about it, I remember it happening
to me the exact way. My motherboard's clock date/time gave out and I had to reset it
this morning. When I was saving a copy of jpg image of screen-copy of my cooky for ya
I couldn't find the file in the latest dated order. I then dragged my mouse over to my clock
and low and behold, it was dated wrong -- was showing May 25, 2003

You think this has something to do with reseting my cookie/s or something ??

In any case, I'll let you know if I can log back in after I log out of netscape and reset my
date to May 25, 2008 and try and log back in but through Opera.

    [SOLVED]

It was because I set the date wrong in my pc, and that changed the way the cookie would respond.

Get an NTP time setting app and set it to adjust your clock --

On WinXP this is built in, look at the tab for "Internet time" on the clock on the task bar, turn it on.
    See http://tf.nist.gov/service/pdf/win2000xp.pdf

For earlier versions, get an app like Dimension4 and set it to run daily.

Preferably look for a local (to you) time server rather than the default, but it should work regardless.

    Thanks for the tips, however..

I do all my other power-house stuff on my XP computer, minus interneting. I don't want M$ 's hands
on my new XP Home computer. This is for my Video Workstation only, and programming, too.

The problem occured on my aging ECS K7S5A motherboard which I run Windows 98 on and surf
the internet from. It mostly serves me for my internet needs.

    Dimension4 will run on Win98.

Or if you're comfortable with command lines, Switime is simple and small.
