Anyone out there have a copy of the Firmware upgrade for the digital protection on premium channels problem the Go Video VR-3845A experienced?

At the time I purchased this video recorder I didn't have a pc I could burn this firmware upgrade onto. Now I do and I find out they went out of business. GPX who bought the name doesn't have any support for these original Go Video recorders.

I'm hoping someone out there might still have a cd with this firmware upgrade burned on it or a pc having this firmware upgrade or any insight on where I can find this online so I can download it would be most appreciated.

    Thanks!!

I'm looking for the same thing, so I thought I'd bump this up...

I got a VR3485 at a garage sale and it only plays VHS and CDs. Not bad for $10, but it would be cool if I could get it to play DVDs so I can say that I got a real steal!!1one ( I get the "Unknown Disc..." error that I've been reading so much about after I googling this model...

Wow....two first-time posters asking for someone to help them in their quest for ILLEGAL activities. WHAT A SURPRISE.

Go away you little leeches....you are no different than ambulance chasers.
"Would you like fries with that?"

Go???? Away??? That's hilarious. Where am I going to "GO"? I am not "here" -- this is not a real "place" you loser! Why do you want us to "go away?" Is "this" where you "live"? Get a life!

If I wanted to copy anything illegally I would use this very computer which has a DVD burner and readily available software such as DVD Decrypter which was advertised at the bottom of your post.

Anyway, all I want is something to make this piece of crap work the way it was manufactured to work. These GoVideo A-holes make this crap and then, not suprisingly, go out of business leaving the people who paid a premium for it up the creek. Luckily for me I did not pay that premium, the only reason I have this particular unit is so that my daughter can watch her old Disney VHS tapes without my having to buy another obsolete machine.

If there is some firmware that will might this thing work like new again, I'd like to have it...

THANKS for bumping this up!! You're a real cool guy (that sits on the computer flaming other peoples' threads at 3a.m. because you can't get any attention otherwise, I'm sure you'll be absolutely thrilled to find that someone has replied to you)

A real "man of the world" huh?
It's the same time everywhere on the planet?
Can't read "Yank in Europe" on my posts?

Bypassing recording restrictions IS illegal in many many places.
It can also get the owner of this site in trouble if such information is given out.
But then again....I wholeheartedly believe you already know that....don't you?

Jesus, what a waste of time, space, and oxygen you are.

Yeah, I saw the "wank in Europe" and was not impressed. You kinda missed the point, I didn't pay any attention to when you actually posted your drivel, I don't get the email notification of replies until I get up the next day anyway. The reason I chose 3am was a statement meaning: (a) You probably live alone and, (b) you have nothing better to do.

Now, before you reply, "nuh-uh! do not! do too!" just realize that I don't care if this is actually true or not, I just know that this is the type of personality that your are projecting with the inflammatory comments made to complete strangers.

All I am asking for is the bug fix that was issued by the manufacturer before the manufacturer went out of business.

Like I wrote in my previous post, why would I bother trying to copy movies with a dvd player when I have a perfectly good computer right in front of me?

Did you or did you not put a banner for DVD Decrypter in your post? This software is notorious for bypassing copy-protection. If you put the banner there then you are a huge hypocrite. If it was put there by this website then I don't think they give a shit, so why don't you go back to jerking-off, you "whole-hearted" loser!

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE BUMP! Do you know what "bump" means? It means that every time someone replies, this thread goes to the top of the forum, thus increasing it's exposure and doing a huge favor to the original poster.

Needless to say I have the same problem to, though my intentions were to copy my old VHS tapes to DVD anyway on my late mother's recorder. Lately I noticed it's been stalling on me a bit and I figured I come here and see if a firmware update was possible despite not being able to find one and also finding out what happened to GoVideo as well. I have to admit I didn't particularly care for how it treated EP-mode recordings I've made 10-20 years ago with the audio coming out garbled. I just needed to get rid of some tapes for space in my house and didn't feel up to buying a new recorder just yet (having spent plenty for a new Samsung LCD flat-panel TV to use as a computer monitor).

No...you are asking to bypass digital protections on footage YOU DO NOT OWN.
Like I wrote in my previous post, why would I bother trying to copy movies with a dvd player when I have a perfectly good computer right in front of me?
No...by you saying "I'm looking for the same thing" as a reply to the original post...who is looking to bypass digital protections on footage HE does not own...you are NOT copying a DVD that you already own....you are trying to bypass television broadcast copy protection.
Did you or did you not put a banner for DVD Decrypter in your post?
Yes....it is perfectly legal to make copies of DVD that you have bought and paid for....it is however
ILLEGAL to bypass digital protections on footage YOU DO NOT OWN(IE...from a protected TV signal).
Get over it. NOBODY is going to help you with it because they know EXACTLY
what you are up to.....as you can see by the staggering amount silence to your request.

Vidhead 2000.....if the tapes that you own are copy protected
then your only alternative would be some sort on in-line filter
if you intent to use the same recorder.

No, it's not that sort of problem I have (the tapes I have are copy-protected at all, and I do have the means to bypass that anyway), just that I would rather see if it was possible to fix a bug in the machine if it kept stalling on me too often during or after recording as I've notice it happen a bit so I had to keep shutting off the power to the unit in order to get it back working again.

Would matter either way if I have to get a new machine or not (already have a TV card in my PC as well so I have that option but I don't feel like lugging my VCR to the PC to do so just yet).

    Oh...OK...now I understand. It's a quirky combo unit?

Pretty much, though since I had it for a few years it's probably starting to show it's wear.

    Someone is offering help here:
    http://www.fixya.com/support/t453048-firmware_update

FWIW, here is some info on the upgrade from an archived URL:
    http://web.archive.org/web/20060516053049/www.govideo.com/?GV=VR3845AUP

Unfortunately the firmware has not been archived.

The file you need is VR3845A.iso (6.5MB).

I've already googled those already, and yes, I would love to have that ISO file if someone out there has it.

  14. I may have overlooked it but I did not see anyone asking to bypass CP

    Why is any firmware required
If wanted to override CP forget it. GO Video was an original unit used to overcome
forms of CP mostly analog on VHS tape and Got in much trouble, they have gone out of the way to make there units comply with CP.
I have a Combo Go Video Unit. Both the VHS and DVD play very, very well Only the VHS will record, Not a problem , I don’t record VHS.
The DVD does not record and will only play a commercial disk Not one that was recorded and never has, Also not a problem.
In my opinion GoVidro was/is a good unit but many were made to do certain functions and not others
I Have Not Seen Any Firmware that will change any original restrictions in these units.
If buying a Go Video. Make sure that the unit will do the functions wanted.

    PS
The DVD unit might be a future problem but I use it primarily for the VCR as it plays VHS tapes that a number of [quote High End] units have tracking problems with.

    [Vidhead2000]

Is it being said that the file mentioned [vr3845A.iso]will render the unit CP Free
    I don’t think So

Does anyone have this firmware upgrade. I'm wondering if this maybe the cause of my unit shutting down when using the timer recording mode on cable but not antenna. Is the new digital signal kicking in the copy protection ?
