    I have a NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG 2.16 and at first it could not burn dual layers, so i upgraded the firmware. I was able to burn one dual layer disk successfully then right after, my computer did not even detect the drive anymore. I restarted and i still could not access the drive. Anyone know what went wrong? Thanks.

  2. Do you by any chance have InCD or other packet-writing soft on that machine? Have you recently changed burning software? Or uninstallled Nero without running the Nero clean tool?

    See if this helps:

    1) Go to Start -> Run

    2) Type in: regedit

    3) Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\
    {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    4) In the right-hand pane, if you see Upper Filters and/or Lower Filters, right-click on each and delete them. Do not monkey with anything else.

    5) Close regedit and reboot.

    That should give you back your optical drive, assuming there were upper and lower filters to delete.

    [EDIT] Just noticed there's a similar thread today here:
