HI8 and MAC

I AM TRYING TO DOWNLOAD MY HI8 TAPES THROUGH A SONY DCR-TRV720.I KNOW THAT MY CAMERA IS COVERTING TO A DIGITAL SIGNAL SINCE I CAN DOWNLOAD WITH IMOVIE 08 ON A FRIENDS MAC.MY MAC HAS IMOVIE HD VERSION 6.0.3. THE VIDEO CAN BE SEEN IN IMOVIE BUT WHEN IT COMES TO BREAKING DOWN THE VIDEO INTO CLIPS THE PROGRAM WILL NOT CAPTURE.I AM TRYING TO AVOID THE UPGRADE TO ILIFE O8,SINCE MANY USERS NOT HAPPY WITH THE NEWER IMOVIE VERSION.ANY SUGGESTIONS.THANK-YOU

I solved the problem,with the camera connected via fire wire,click on play first not import.Once the video is playing in the imovie screen then click import.The video is downloaded as one large clip.Edit as per usual.So if you have the right digital 8 camera from sony you can convert your hi8 tape straight to imovie hd 6.0.3 via fire wire.Excellent !!!!!
