This has to be one of the worst encodes I've seen lately.
I could see macrobocking on the original disc....just a bad job. I think I'll analyze it just to see what the bit rate is. Can't be much though.
This is most likely the production house wanting people to get BluRay version, cause this one sucks.
Good movie though

I know HD DVD is "dead", but I read somewhere that there is scheduled to be an HD DVD release of "I Am Legend" in about 3 weeks. If true, I will get one to play on my cheap formerly-HD DVD, currently upscaling-DVD player (or on my wife's 17-inch HP laptop with HD DVD ROM).

Maybe I exaggerated a little. Instead of macroblocking, let’s call it pixilation.
Either way, it looks like crap to me. -
I just watched it this weekend. 360 to 46' 1080p Sharp Aquos via HDMI. Looked pretty good to me, didn't notice a thing...
I'd say The Matrix is far worse than this movie.Have a good one,

Yes! I looked it up on http://www.joblo.com/dvdclinic/release_dates.php. I Am Legend comes out on HD DVD on April 8. Now all you have to do is find one somewhere.

Well maybe Stiltman got his copy from some little shop in the Far East for $1
Bad ending BTW. -
Amazon has it listed. Release date is April 8th. It's been advertised on TV as being released for both HD-DVD and BD so I don't see it as being insanely hard to get your hands on an HD-DVD release. The downside I see about the HD-DVD release is that it also contains the SD DVD release while the information says it's one disc. It may be a flip-disc release. From all I've read the flip-discs, in general, have a bad track record when it comes to manufacturing quality.

Maybe studios are spending less money on DVD mastering to motivate people to migrate towards Blu-Ray? Sounds like a conspiracy theory, I know, but I’ve heard of worse tactics that were true.
Thanks,
