Folks,
I now got a TV with HDMI in and connected my 5982 over HDMI (gone are the Component Video Days). The problem I am having is that I cant get 5.1 sound. Sound travels through the HDMI cable but the receiver does only stereo with it.
If I run sound over coax digital it, is 5.1 but through HDMI its just stereo...
I ran HDMI into the receiver and from there in the TV and I tried HDMI to the TV and then from the TV optical digital in the receiver. In either case I am only getting stereo and no 5.1 ...
What am I doing wrong?
Advice appreciated
Matt

It turns out the 1016 does not support HDMI sound ... Still there should be a way to get 5.1 sound from 5982 into the TV and then via digital optical in the receiver, unless the TV doesnt support it either ... strange

The TV won't support it. HDCP specs don't allow 5.1 audio over an unecrypted connection. So the TV won't forward 5.1 audio to the receiver, only stereo PCM.Originally Posted by Fearnot

Thanks for the info .. thats depressing ... I wonder which idiot dreams these things up?
Why dont they just make it so that you have to watch the FBI warning for 1 hour and cant skip it and the movie itself will be "protected" by making it all black that way people cant copy it ...
