  1. Please confirm whether when wmp11 is intalled does it also install its own runtim files and leave teo entries in the add-remove panel ? or did i get that by installing wmp11 runtimes earlier when i had wmp10 and it remains

    should i uninstall the runtimes?

As far as I've seen, installing WMP11 does indeed set up two entries in Add/Remove, the main WMP11 entry, and the runtime entry. I recently had to remove both of those (rebooting after each) just to roll an XP system back to WMP10 so I could simply update the firmware on an old Nomad player. :/ (Then re-install WMP11.)

I'd figure both would probably be needed for Media Player 11 to run, however, so it's probably not a good idea to uninstall just the runtimes.

  3. Yeah you should keep the WMF11 runtimes, you can download them here:

Umm... this is referring to the Media Player 11 runtime, not codecs.

But, if perfection has installed WMP11 and hasn't used Add/Remove Programs to uninstall either entry (as the OP implies), he should still have the runtimes, and not need to re-download them.

The self-extracting archive wmfdist11.exe contains both the runtime files for WMP 11
and the latest Windows Media codecs. BTW, the "official" name for the archive is exactly
    "windows media format 11 runtime".

    Ah, okay. I stand corrected.

Of course, I still don't know why Media Player needs separate runtimes, anyway... but let's not get into that. :/
