  1. Guys I take avi vids and convert them to vcd, but than I burn them on to a dvd as data. That way I can put 2-3 movies on one disc. My old no name xwave dvd plays them, but its tearing up so I need to find a new one. What type do I need. I tried a dvd player that plays divx files, but it will not play any of the dvds that I have burnt as data. Any ideas?

My Philips DVP-642 can play such data discs. Other Philips models should do this, but you should confirm that by testing. I don't recommend the DVP-642 and I think it is no longer being made, but other recent Philips models should be able to do what you want.

Look for a Divx certified player. You can find a list at divx.com or you can search in the DVD players section here. You should then be able to burn the files straight to CD/DVD without any need to convert them. There will be some exceptions, but most files should work fine.
