after the hp support assistant i spoke with determined that it is faulty discs and not the burner.i come to you guys again.the problem can be explained by this example.sometimes it will load a disc sometimes it will not load a disc.my comp is hp compaq sr2180nx the burner is samsung TS-H652M.when i put a disc in and use windows explorer to open the drive, explorer continues to "load" while it cannot see or read the disc.it is as if the computer goes on halt or freezes as long as the disc is in the drive.programs freeze mid way through loading,if i eject the disc the program finishes loading.the disc cannot be loaded or read or whatever you'ld call it not even isobuster can read it.again this happens with random discs dvd-r or dvd+r one time it will load the next it wont, plagued by these symptoms.thank you

    It could be several things.

The Samsung burner could be going bad. Burners do eventually wear out. If this one is a few years old, it may be time for a new burner.

The original burns might be bad and the discs can't be read because of that. You can verify whether the disc is readable at all by trying to play it on another PC or a DVD player.

The disc quality might be crap, which led to bad burns. I have a friend who uses cheap, crappy DVDs for stuff he sends to me. It's some old TV stuff not on DVD or VHS anywhere and he asks me to make a copy for my brother. It's a nightmare to copy his discs because they have so many bad sectors on them because the media he uses is crap.

Rent a movie and try to play it in your burner. Try load it few times, if it reads without problem, your trouble is mostly from cheep media. If it loads sometime, same as you are experiencing now, than your burner is ready for replacement.
