  1. Will Nero convert an avi file to MPEG. If so why use TPMEnc and why do people have so many problems. I just want to play downloaded avi movies on my stand alone dvd player. Could someone tell me the easiest way in the simplest terms please. I have read so many different things I am totally confused.

All you need to know is under CONVERT to the left. TMPG is a software Mpeg Encoder

I second about the info under "convert." Nero does conversion from AVI to MPEG, but not to MPEG2(for SVCD's)unless you buy their optional add-on/plug-in.
Also, from what I have read , TMPGENC may have better quality than the Nero plug-in, and it's free to use.
Much thanks to all the "founding fathers" and contributors to this website; I've learned, and continue to learn so much.

Without a doubt, NERO sucks eggs at encoding MPEG1 and MPEG2. ALWAYS use TMPEGnc or CCE to make your MPEG to burn on CD to play on your stand alone player.

As said above, use the CONVERT link to the left for all the info you need.

Also try the SEARCH option above to search the forum archives for more info. Usually all questions can be answered in one of the two places.
