Unfortunately, a lot of manufacturers use a major system upgrade (95 - XP, XP - Vista) as a way to force retirement of older kit that they don't want to support any more. They simply don't make drivers for the new OS, and let people replace the device as they move up. Not much MS or anyone can do about it. The same thing happens to Apple as well. Leopard (OS X 10.5) is suffering from driver issues and other problems that seem very similar to some of the problems Vista has had. MS has invested a lot of time and resources into trying to get device manufacturers to produce drivers, however they can only do so much.

Like 'em or hate 'em (or a bit of both), it ain't all their fault.
