Assuming you mean "How may I download Flash movies?": If you use Firefox (earlier than the v3 beta that was recently released), you may use the Media Pirate extension. Select Add-ons from the Tools menu and follow the links to get that extension.

    1) I am on 2.2 Firefox. But does this mean if this works, I can never upgrade? (why?)

    2) What about Safari. I do 98% of my web surfing in Safari. thanks

I use Orbitdownloader, but unfortunately it's only for Windows.

Another I use is DownloadHelper (firefox extension). It runs on Linux, Windows and Mac OS-X http://www.downloadhelper.net/

That extension is not currently compatible with the latest version of Firefox. Give it a few weeks or so and this will surely be resolved.

For either browser, try this: http://www.techcrunch.com/get-youtube-movie/

I use SafariStand. With that installed, wait until the FLV has
finished loading (progress bar all the way to the end), and
    command-click the movie. Easy.

    AL:
Ok, I got Safari Stand in the Toolbar.
It list bunch of things I have no idea what they are:
endode this, endoce that, toggle sidebar.
Pity there is no manual or help. I'm sure some of this stuff could be useful if I knew what any of it meant.
Anyway, I found a flash video on web, let it play all the way through and did the right click, but do not see any save options. Just the ususal, Settings and About Adobe Flash Player

If Downloadhelper works on Mac OS-X like it does for Windows, I'd use that for now. I don't like it as much as Orbit, but it does work and it's free.

No, Kevs. Not a right-click. Command-click. The key with the
open apple on the left and the squashed bug on the right is
    called "command."

    The "activity window" trick:

In Safari, go to Window -> Activity, find the .swf file(s), hold down option, and double click to download.

In the activity window, did you navigate to:

    http://d.yimg.com/static.video.yahoo.com/yep/YV_YEP.swf

Once hi-lited, hold down option, and double-click.

    Works fine for me.

Not a prayer. That clip is no FLV.

All I would know to snag it is SnapzPro for $70 from Ambrosia.

I'm not good about these things.

iShowU, for $20, was able to "hijack" the video to a QT .mov file.
Had a hard time getting the buffering to catch up though......
could be because of all the traffic on my home LAN....

Thanks Guys. How does one know right away that the video is a FLV or not?
Terry, never heard of ishowu, do you recommend it? worth it? How many videos are not either QT or FLV?

    Yes, wholeheartedly I recommend iShowu.
Saved my bacon plenty of times.

As for the last question, "how many videos aren't QT or flv?"
How many PCs are in the world? oh, about that many.....

    Terry:
ishowu, is a screen capture software, correct? and I think (I don't have it yet) Snap z pro is the gold standard for that no?
How did you know it was not a FLV? how does one see what it is?

Yes, iShowU is a screen capture software.
Gold standard, no, Snapz and iShowU are more like the silver standard,
this software, ScreenFlow , is what I consider the gold standard.

    @FLV:
    1. Perform a View Source on the link you sent when loaded in a page.
Search for .flv..no matches. search for .swf, 7 matches.

    2. paste in the direct widget from the embed code:
    http://bin.clearspring.com/lib/0.8.5/370/m2.swf
and launch the Activity in Safari, and watch what loads when you play the file in the widget.

ok terry, did search, and one better do a search so much there, ok, .swf, what is swf. Still very clumsy way to find that out.

Darn I'm on Tiger still. Bottom line is you need to screen capture it. How is the quality doing that, and what is best Tiger app for it. thanks!

    iShowU.

Quality is what you set it to: DV Stream, (HQ), QT .Mov,
    .mp4 ( medium), etc.
