  1. My desktop background is all black, no matter what I try to put on there it stays black. If I restart my computer the image will appear but turn black after the icons appear.

  2. Is your LCD or inverter burnt out? If you look closely can you make out vague outlines of icons?

Maybe your settings have changed (either display settings, or monitor settings)?

Plug in your PC to another monitor to see if your monitor is the culprit.

I've seen XP do it too.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. No I can see the icons, just not the background image

  6. Do you mean the wallpaper? If so, just change the settings

  7. I've seen this - it had something to do with starting Windows normally after an abnormal shutdown. After booting to safe mode the wallpaper came back.

May not work for you but it can't hurt to try. Just shut down and boot into safe mode then shut down and boot normally.

  8. Try right clicking on a blank area, Pick properties, Then Desktop, Then at the bottom Customize Desktop, Then the Web tab. Make sure nothing is checked. Sometimes that'll do it too. What you are seeing means something is overlaying your wallpaper.
