I use Allok Video joiner and every once in a while when I try to play the video on my philips dvd player, I get a message that the video codec is not supported. A friend of mine thinks i need to adjust the output width/heighth ratio rather than using the original setting. the two avi files i joined were 592x320. what ratio should be?
    Would appreciate any input

Oh, one more thing. I just burned both parts to dvd and they play fine. It seems the problem is the output file. So i'm sure i have the wrong setting in Allok video joiner

  3. I don't know anything about Allok Video Joiner. But you can try using AviDemux instead. It's free and one of the best programs for this sort of thing. VirtualDub is also free and can join AVI files.

Will avidemux join the files? Should I use this program to get the right ratio

  5. AviDemux, does much more than its name suggests. It is a full video filtering and conversion tool. It can also join AVI files without reencoding them. But they must be similar -- same codecs, same frame size, etc.

The player is telling you that the codec is not supported, not the resolution. Chances are the AVI has been encoded in a way the player does not like. G-spot can tell you how the file has been encoded, and from there you can see if it meets the criteria for your player. The resolution is low, but well within spec.

Personal view - Allok is rubbish. You will get better quality from something like AVI Demux, but it may not hold your hand as much. Better in the long run anyway.
