Can anyone tell this newbie how do get just the audio file off a DVD so I can listen to it in my car / on my mp3 player? I've bought a home study course on DVD and really want to be able to listen in the car as I drive (preferably without buying software!).
Thanks guys.

An easy way of doing it (but not actually ripping anything) would be to play the DVD on your computer, then use a sound editor like Audacity to record whatever audio you want.
However, if quality's an issue, you'd probably want to go ahead and rip the DVD with something like DVDFab HD Decrypter, and process the resulting files however you prefer. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
DVD Audio Extractor gets mentioned quite a bit. It's not free, but probably has a trial version that will last long enough for a one-off project.
