  1. I've been doing some tests with capturing with my AIW 128 pro card. I've noticed if I capture at any higher resolution than 352x240 I get these horizontal lines through the AVI file where ever there is motion (doesn't matter if I use Huffyuv or uncompressed). I wanted to make an SVCD from a capture at 480x480, so I captured at this resolution and converted the file to MPEG2 with Tmpgenc. I'm not sure if those lines effect the resulting mpeg or not but I tried somthing else.
I captured at 352x240 and resized it to 480x480 with Virtual Dub (bicubic) and there were no lines through the output file, but the picture was a little softer due to the resizing.
I may be wrong but I think the resized mpeg file looked a little better (cleaner) than the mpeg which was captured at 480x480.

Any comments on this? Anyone want to try this themselves?

  2. Your Video source is interlaced, that's where stripes come from.
If you're capturing at 320x240 this is not a problem since you use only
half of the possible lines, let's say the even or odd numbered lines.
If you want to use both to get a higher resolution you have to de-interlace the video. This can be done with tmpgenc. The options at the bottom work best.
In addition you can use the "Sharpen Edge" Filter of tmpgenc to get more
sharpness. This worked for me when capturing from a PAL DV cam
