I would like to extract predetermined seconds of play (say 0s to 44s) from a VOB file and save the clip to a new file.
Anybody with useful leads to how this can be achieved?

    Thanks.

DVD Shrink in reauthor mode will give you VOBs
    Videoredo
Virtualdubmpeg-2 if you want avi output
    Womble
Cuttermaran (with a little work up front)

I haven't used VideoRedo to produce VOBs, but I believe it can. DVD Shrink will also produce VOBs, but as part of a complete DVD structure. DVD Shrink is free, VideoRedo is not, however if you are going to do a lot of this type of editing, VideoRedo is a great investment.

    guns1inger ,
    I'll try out DVD Shrink.
Does it support command-line options? I'm looking to invoke it from another process.

    Thanks so much.

Never tried it, to be honest. For what you want to do, I suspect not.

    guns1inger ,

I think i may well have to stick with VirtualDubMpeg-2 and have the output as avi since i can write a virtualdub script and specify the start/stop range.

    Thanks.

In that case, you might also consider Avisynth and DGIndex as options
