I am trying Xilisoft over convertxtodvd to see if conversion quality is better for converting divx to dvd. I also like that I can convert several projects simultaneously. The thing is, there are a lot of settings for bitrate, crop, aspect ratio, etc. I left all of that alone and went with the default settings and ended up with a majorly letter-boxed output video, leading me to believe these settings have to be adjusted. I have looked everywhere for recommended settings but found nothing. Anyone have experience with this software? I just want a nice NTSC conversion of a divx file to VOB to burn and play in my standalone to watch on my widescreen.

I think you will find ConvertX does a better job, but you might need to adjust those settings also. But bitrate determines the size of the video and the quality. The aspect ratio can cause letter boxing. Most videos are 16:9 these days, so you will have some letter boxing when displayed on a 4:3 TV screen. Most of this is basic video settings. You might look to the help files for your program, or go to the programs website and you may find tutorials that would help you understand all the programs settings.

If you want more control of your video, then you have to learn more about it and the programs you want to use. If you want to try a freeware converter, then look into FAVC. But it has even more options.
