DVD has a higher resolution than LD.

    Now as to
what has better quality usually... a Laser Disc or DVD from the same movie
It would depend on the original source material as i have seen officially released & pressed dvd's that the source was taken from VHS & LD, but this does not make the DVD version better quality because it was sourced from a lower resolution master.

But usually the dvd is the better quality.

    VHS
    S-VHS
    Laserdisc
    DVD

    What movie is it ??
All movies started out on VHS, then LD then DVD, because all there was at one time was VHS, back in the day LOL!!

Usually it would be the dvd as most studios would have access to the original film/master so they would not have to source it from a lower quality source for the dvd release.

I would imagine Madonna or her label would have held on to the original master video and used that to make the dvd.
