How to play video on VGA monitor without a PC

Is there any device out there that can connect to a vga monitor to play a slide show of photos without a pc connected to it, I reviewd whats out there and could not find anything small and portable without going through the hassle of connecting a pc to it, it would like to use it to show various dental procedures in a slide show format.
