grayski - do you want numbers for bigger o/c's that i wouldn't run all the time? 3.6 is stable and i've got it to boot at up to 4.5 for a couple hours, but there's too much heat to keep it running too long.

This is where I'm getting confused.

I have two sticks of G.Skill 800 memory
    Cas Latency: 5
    Timing: 5-5-5-15
    Voltage: 1.8V - 2.0V

    (recommended for this board)

Intel reads it as 800Mhz but CPU-Z reads it as 400Mhz

    DIMM #1

    General
    Memory type DDR2
    Module format Regular UDIMM
    Manufacturer (ID) G.Skill (7F7F7F7FCD000000)
    Size 1024 MBytes
    Max bandwidth PC2-6400 (400 MHz)
    Part number F2-6400CL5-1GBNQ

    Attributes
    Number of banks 2
    Data width 64 bits
    Correction None
    Nominal Voltage 1.80 Volts
    EPP no
    XMP no

    Timings table
    Frequency (MHz) 266 400
    CAS# 4.0 5.0
    RAS# to CAS# delay 4 5
    RAS# Precharge 4 5
    TRAS 10 15
    TRC 14 21

    DIMM #2

    General
    Memory type DDR2
    Module format Regular UDIMM
    Manufacturer (ID) G.Skill (7F7F7F7FCD000000)
    Size 1024 MBytes
    Max bandwidth PC2-6400 (400 MHz)
    Part number F2-6400CL5-1GBNQ

    Attributes
    Number of banks 2
    Data width 64 bits
    Correction None
    Nominal Voltage 1.80 Volts
    EPP no
    XMP no

    Timings table

    RAS# to CAS# delay 4 5
    RAS# Precharge 4 5
    TRAS 10 15
    TRC 14 21

Either CPU-Z is reading it wrong or Newegg sent me the wrong memory.

  11. thanks, since they're DDR2, CPU-Z's numbers need to be doubled. That's just the way it displays them so no worries there. I'll add your results to the database and update either tonight or tomorrow.

    Thanks!

My brother got the OK to spend his tax relief check on a new motherboard for me in exchange for my Intel board and Pentium D chip so I'll be updating again in a couple of weeks.

graysky - in the excel report on line 84 you list the cpu as an fx-60 "kentsfield" i think it should be a q6600 as it looks like some of the results i posted for you.

  19. cool man, got it. If you have DDR2-1066 memory, you can run them up @ a 4:5 divider @ your 8x400 and hit 1,000 MHz for a slight gain.

I wasn't sure what to do with the DRAM multiplier since there was no 1 setting. I just changed the host frequency to 400 and changed the memory multiplier to 2.0 since I had seen that spec in an overclockers forum. First, I tried to set it to Auto since I didn't see a 1.0 and the system wouldn't start up. It was caught in a loop trying to start. First I set it back to default settings then decided to try the settings that I assumed would work and it fired up.

I googled a lot of different overclockers sites in the last couple of days but couldn't find anything for overclocking this board for beginners so decided to use the G.SKILL specs with the 400 CPU frequency and the 2.00 multiplier. I didn't want to try and figure out memory and voltage settings since all that is way over my head.

I'm kinda worried about how long the CPU will last running at this speed. If I can get four or five years, I'll be happy. It isn't running hot with the Hyper 212 cooler. Around 36* idle and looks like the highest it got under load was 57*.

Graysky, how do I do that? Here is how I have my BIOS settings now.

    Code:

  21. @DarrellS - hmm... I dunno, on my board there is an option for both the MB strap and the divider. Which board do you have?

Went back into BIOS to see what I could do and noticed that my memory frequency had changed to 800 800. I edited the above post to show the change.

Tried setting to 4.0= and PC wouldn't start with three loud beeps. Changed back to 2.0 at 800Mhz. I'll try googling some more and see if I can't find the answer to the magic number.

Seems like the only way I can get it to run stable is with the above settings so I'm gonna leave them as they are unless someone with the same board and memory can give me some pointers.

CPU-Z has my FSBRAM at 1:1 with the 2.00 system Memory multiplier.

  25. @darrells - I dunno about that particular board... see if there's an option to manually select the fsb strap in the bios if you want to run a non 1:1 divider. I wonder if 2.00 = 1:1 and 4.00 = 1:2 or something like that... can you use fractions?
