  1. my pc is about 15 feet away from my cable
box. i just picked up the dazzle dvc -2.
    currently i have a 12 foot s-video / audio
wire connecting the box and the dazzle.
i need more wire to do some on wall wiring.
my question is regarding the length of the
    s-video cable. if i pick up a 20 foot
s-video cable, would i lose a lot of the
picture quality? in addition, how would
this differ from just a 20 foot composite
video cable? also, how would the 20 foot
    composite audio cables effect video/audio
    sync problems? thanks.

p.s. how about the quality of the wires? i
really don't want to spend more than $40 on
    them.

  2. The only way you would lose picutre quality is if you went to a smaller guage wire on either of the wires. The S-video is a little better than the RCA connections. Same holds with the audio. I sent your message to my brother who is an electrician and he said that as long as you use the same guage wires, you will have no picture loss. Anything else, let me know.

  3. The terminology in my last post was a little confusing.........when I said smaller guage wire, I meant a smaller diameter, which on the guage numbering system is actually higher.

I have been doing video and audio installs for years and there are only a couple things to remember.
    1. Always use good shielded cables
    2. Never lay your cables over or near floresent lights. -very noisey.
    3. Never run your cables parallel to power lines -it picks up noise.

I have sucessfully run video and audio over 100 feet without an amplifier and very little loss (using RG-59 for the video). 50 to 75 feet should not give you much loss.
S-video is better than composite video. -but more cables to run.

  5. Thanks Mike,

You are right about the flourescent lights thing. Also, very highly recommended to have shielded cables. Just don't mix different guages together.
