I've ripped both sides of a dual sided disc and I'd like to combine them so that both sides are on one disc.

Is there software that will allow me to combine the two ripped discs onto one?

Yes. Popcorn 3 has an option to do that easily as will the new Toast 9 when it is released in a few days. I suspect DVD2One has a feature for adding content from multiple VIDEO_TS folders as well.

Any shareware that does it? DVD2OneX doesn't seem to be very intuitive.

The following can combine VIDEO_TS folders into one DVD:

Toast 9 will, Toast 8 can provided the rips are clean
( I have done three 1hr20min movies to one SL, and two 2hr+min
    movies to one DVD+DL)

DVD2ONEX will also take ripped Video_TS folders and combine to
one DVD (SL or DL). I did this with a FS and WS copy of the
Incredibles, taking both Video _TS of each movie and combined
them to play back to back ( FS to WS) for trips to Grandma's house.

If the Main Features have been ripped and then the VOBs converted
to Mpeg-2, then Visual Hub will join them onto one DVD.

I tried it with DVD2OneX and it didn't give me an option as to which disc I wanted to view and it joined one track of disc one to the track on disc two. I'm joining my copy of Dr. Zhivago. It went from Omar Shariff's introduction to the intermission. So, it completely cut out Part One.

What could I possibly be doing wrong?

I assume that Dr. Zhivago is a Dual Layer disc, and that One Title
is the main ( start credits to intermission) and one is the secondary
    (after intermission to end).

If you first play it in DVD Player, what does it list as main title?
as secondary title? Make a note of it, because that is what you
need to join off in DVD2ONEX.

So lets say that main title is Title 1 with 29 chapters.
and that secondary title is Title 2 with 27 chapters.

In DVD2ONEX, you would join each title one after the other,
and check the seamless join box. Then the resulting disc,
would playback T1 and T2 seamlessly on the disc.

Now I assume that the disc is copy protection free.
If not, you will rip each title to seperate folders FIRST
using MTR, and then you will join those titles in DVD2ONEX.

Here's an example of how to join a "flipper" (not the dolphin) disc.

Maybe it will be of some help.

That all works. What if I want all of the extras and commentary tracks?

I'd love to find an option where it creates a menu at the beginning allowing you to choose which disc you watch. Then, upon selecting, brings up the menu of the disc that you choose.

A different approach is to extract each of the titles from the DVDs as MPEG files (you can do this with MPEG Streamclip) and use an application to author a new VIDEO_TS folder with a new menu pointing at each of those titles. I'd use Toast or Popcorn for this but you already have said you don't want to buy commercial software. For someone who wants so much you're making it hard on yourself by limiting your options this way.

Ouch, man. I'm just trying to find out what's possible is all.

I guess being inquisitive and trying to articulate what I want is a crime.

If it can't be done, it can't be done. And apparently, I'm rubbing people the wrong way.

C'mon, you can't be that fragile. If you were rubbing me the wrong way I wouldn't have offered the alternative way of doing what you want. And I think it is fair to point out that the shareware limitation you were setting was narrowing your options.

    Blah.

    1) I stated exactly what I want at 10AM this morning. Authoring a new VIDEO_TS folder is obviously not an option that will get me what I previously stated that I want.

    2) Shareware was never a limitation. I asked about shareware and never said that it was a requirement.

Since Shareware/low cost software isn't an issue,
Then get DVD Studio Pro and you can do what
    you want to do easily.
    *shrugs*

    1. Rip the discs to the HD into folders by title, so you
have a folder for Part 1,a folder for Part 2, a folder
    for extra 1, etc.

    2. Open up MpegStreamclip, ( w/QT Mpeg-2 addon)
and demux each ttile into its elementary streams.
    ( m2v for video,ac3 for audio)

    3. Open up DVD Studio Pro, and author a new disc, create a new Menu
and buttons to point to the assets on their own timelines,
setting the navigation as you please.

    4. Burn the disc and your done.
