Why you would want to watch HD anything on a laptop is beyond me. No benefit on the small screen.

You can connect it to a 100" Plasma....

I would probably wait for a blu-ray if you want to play HD movies.

HD-DVD players are being cleared below $100. If I wanted HD-DVD on a 100" plasma that's what I'd buy. Its lower than incremental cost on a Toshiba laptop with HD-DVD vs DVD.

I really would not want to use S-video or VGA to drive the 100" plasma either. Thats the available outputs on the Toshibas I checked.

  5. I'm just asking if there is a point in buying a laptop with an HD DVD drive if the format lost with BLU RAY.. will HD DVD most likely become useless in a while???

No sense buying it. They will not be making any more HD DVDs, so unless you have an extensive HD library and you watch all your movies on a laptop, it isn't worth an extra dime. Frankly, on a 15" screen you won't notice any difference than regular DVDs.

Wouldn't a DVD writer be more useful?
