I have a "homemade" (actually made by a high school A/V department) video on DVD-R, which is not compatible with my player. I tried copying to a DVD +R (brand that has worked for me in the past) using DVD Shrink with DVD Decrypter, and now the DVD player will start playing, but at some point it stops (giving me the blue screen and C:13 error, I don't know if that's a universal error code).
Is there anything I can do in the Shrink/Decrypter settings to improve my playback? It is admittedly a poor quality production, but it does play through on my computer and portable player, just not on my older home player (where I would most like to watch!). The DVD player is a Sony DVP-C600P.
Thanks.

Some Sony players are more particular for playback. Not knowing what that error is indicating and assuming the original video was produced correctly, I would try a different brand of DVD media. That's the easiest thing to change. It may be your media is marginal.
Most times, when a DVD stops or stutters in the middle of playback, it's a media problem. But you could try running it through DVD Shrink in reauthor mode. That sometimes cleans up authoring problems. And I would still try a different media brand. Also use ImgBurn to burn with. Some other burning programs, like Nero, can cause problems at times. -
As I remember it a C:13 error means something like a dirty disc. IOWs the player can not read the disc. Try different media. Bad luck for you that your Sony player is picky. I use a Sony changer that plays every DVD I've thrown at it as long as the disc is region 1 and NTSC.
Have you tried Verbatim or Re-Writable discs? -
If the Sony DVP-C600P is the player which is also known as the DVP-C600 it has a well documented incompatibility with various media. (Try some google searches).
For example, tests by Memorex (not a favored media on this forum) indicate that only their DVD-R will work in this unit.
The age of that unit is suggestive that perhaps its time to buy a new one. Prices do start as low as $30. -
Thanks all for your suggestions. I will try different brands. Meanwhile, I will also ask the AV department if they can make me a new copy on a DVD+R. I'm not ready to scrap my changer! It works well otherwise.

Sounds more like cheap or bad media. What kind did you use? I only recommend Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. Anything else is spotty at best. You should have no problem copying the DVD. If your Sony supports bitsetting (also called booktyping), use CD/DVDspeed to booktype to DVD-Rom. Also, update your firmware if you haven't done it lately. Most firmware updates are for media compatibility.

It's strange as I use a Sony 400 Disc DVD changer and a 5 Disc DVD Changer and they both have no problem with whatever brand of disc I burn. The 400 disc changer is hooked up to the TV and the 5 disc DVD changer is hooked up these days as a glorified CD player with a color monitor for the 80's for playing music videos and a display to select tracks from. Considering I bout it around the time I bought my first DVD Burner, a DRU-500a, it works pretty good on burned discs. As I would epect from Sony it adheres strictly to DVD specs. Since I'm in the USA it only plays NTSC no matter what the region code is. I used it to play VCDs and SVCDs too.

Go to the Sony website, look for your model # for firmware or downloads. There should be directions.
