    Hi all,

I've been trying to transcode a recording I made on my DVD recorder using Rejig, but every time it nears completion, I get a Windows message saying that Rejig has crashed/hung... I suspect there's something corrupt in my MPEG file, but have no idea how to find and/or fix it... The MPEG file itself plays just fine.

I've transcoded another DVD recording and had no problems with it, so I'm sure my procedure is correct.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It may use quite a lot of space -- up to twice the total size of the original files I think -- while processing. Do you have enough free space?

Watch the folders it uses for output and see the files it creates during processing.

    Thanks for the reply.

The MPEG2 file I'm transcoding is about 3GB and I've got 32GB of disc space... More than enough, huh?

The other file I transcoded was similar in size... And no hiccups.

I tried a roundabout way: authoring the two 3GB files (no problems) then having DVD Shrink transcode the two files to fit a DVD-5 disc...

And DVD Shrink promptly hung up as well, at about 70% completion...

What file system do you use? If Fat32, it can't have single files over 4GB.
If so, convert it to NTFS.

Otherwise, if you have an MPEG editor such as Womble, open the MPEG and save it back under a different name. That should clean up any weirdness in the file.

Does the trial version have this feature enabled?

I don't wanna spend $50 on a program that won't fix my problem....

    Absolutely NTFS.

Hmm, that's worth a try... Maybe Rejig doesn't like the file name "Episode08.mpg"...

That didn't work... VideoReDo says it completed, but it actually gave up once it encountered the error (at about 67%) apparently...

Did some searching through the forums... I'll try demuxing and re-muxing the file. *fingers crossed*

Okay, I tried demuxing and re-muxing the MPEG2 file... Same problem with Rejig: it hangs about midway through the process...

    Inexplicable.

I ran the file through Womble's GOP fixer and ProjectX... Didn't help at all.

    This is bad.

Finally solved the problem and it didn't involve Rejig: I used TMPGEnc Plus to do the transcoding.

Apparently TMPGEnc is more tolerant of whatever MPEG2 peculiarities that were in the file I was trying to transcode...

    Whew.
