I used 2 camcorders (one HDV, one 3 CCD) to tape event. They are all using mini DV tapes to record video.
Can DV tapes be able to play back in different camcorders, as long as those camcorders are DV tapes compatible ?
Will the quality of footage be changed if HDV tapes played on 3CCD camcorder, for example ?

Any stand alone DV tapes player is recommended for editing ? I try to avoid keep using my camcorder to re-wind and play back.

    Many thanks.

The MiniDV tapes will play with full quality so long as the recording and playback camcorders have reasonable wear and heads aren't excessively dirty.

Problems may occur when you use LP (extended play) mode. One should avoid LP mode recording unless the same camcorder will play the material. LP mode should never be used for archive.

As for playback deck, normally one would transfer the tape data to the computer disk in one pass and then edit from the hard disk. No need to use a separate playback deck unless the tapes are arriving by mail.

aac - did you record in SD or HD with the hdv cam? if SD then most miniDV cams should play it back fine but if it's HD it will probably only play back in the hdv cam.

    I missed that take.

HDV tapes can only be played on HDV players. DV tapes can be played in HDV or DV players.

A 3CCD camcorder can be HDV or DV format. Likewise a single sensor camcorder might be HDV or DV format. What counts is the recording format.

And don't mix tapes (brands). Might give you a problem like it did to me and some other people. You may want to clean the head before switching to another brand.

    Thanks for all advices.
All DV tapes are recorded under standard resolution and SP by Panasonic HVX100B and Sony HC-9. Since the DV tapes desks are so expsensive, can I simply get a cheap DV camcorder to rewind and transfer recorded video to computer or DVD recorder without losing the orginal picture quality ?

Are you shooting 480pa/24 or 480i/29.97 on the Panasonic HVX100B ?
Since this is such a specialized model, I'd transfer 480pa with the original camcorder rather than risk problems. The "wear" won't be significant. The camcorder will be obsolete before the heads wear out.
