PVR and External HD

In which forum can I ask about the possibilities/capabilities of my PVR as it applies to connecting an external HD, etc??

"DVD Recorders" would be a good place as it also covers Tivo-type devices that are HD based. Good question and good for you for posting in General Discussions first, which is the right thing to do.

Unless someone is familiar with your make and model (you didn't note which you have), the only way to know for sure is by trying. Many DVR's have the external (USB/Firewire) ports disabled. There is also the question of what exactly you are trying to do. Most DVR's won't playback files from an external drive and the few that do, typically treat the external drive as an addition to the internal drive and will only playback files that it placed on the drive.

If this is a cable company DVR, they usually support external drives off a SATA port and use encryption. It is up to the local cable company to turn this feature on or off. Most have it set to off.
