So do you take the time to rate your digital music files in your favorite software player?

I've never taking the time to do that. I usually just play all my music in random mode. How about you?

No. I'm not a compulsive downloader. I have a library but not huge. I know every single song I have and thus know which are good.
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

If you don't, how do you know which is which, or what name to write on their birthday card ?

Never saw the point in putting stars on songs, but then I still don't get social networking sites, so what do I know.

I have a big collection on my drive, never rated a single one, anyway giving a track a rating would vary from day to day depending on what i felt like listening to. what mood i was in.

  6. Exactly. I know the songs I have and decide what to play depending on my mood. Not to mention I prefer Video clips to just audio only clips.

Seems kind of pointless to rate one's own music collection. I suppose there are those that can create playlists based on ratings, but what would be the point of saying to yourself,"Gee, I think I'll listen to all the songs I gave 2 stars to. I'm in the mood for mediocre music today". ?

I don't bother to rate for the same reasons as other have mentioned.

I was on a flight once and watched a guy spend 3 hrs plus rating his iTunes collection. I remember thinking "Wow! What a colossal waste of time that is" Of course what does that say about me as I actually wasted time watching someone wasting time. Maybe there is something to watching paint dry.

Someone mentioned that a rating on a given day would depend upon mood.

Well, of course it would. There is no other art from as emotional as music. It can make a day or break it. It can ruin a made day or brighten a broken one.

So, logically, rating music can't be done.

I don't rate my music. Most of the time my media player will already have the average rating next to it. Why even rate the music...I got it for a reason.
