best free DV to DVD encoder???

I know it's been asked many times and there are many comments in the tool section, but most aren't specific to DV. I have DV footage from my camcorder and still photos in a video I made. I exported to DV and now need to encode. The problem is my TMPGenc encoding program I used t use for this isn't on the computer I have now! So, I'm lokng for something else. It's a sports video so action/motion encoding quality is #1 criteria. The encoder in my Magix Movie Edit Pro 11 editing program did a terrible job with the motion!

I've heard DVD Flick is a good interface for a free encoder. What about autoGK, what DV to mpeg2 quality would that give? Any other encoders notused in those products but free and high quality for this application?

OK, thanks. Does that use th HC encoder? The tool section says QUenc but also I see folks mention HC. I've heard that is a good one andalso used in DVDFlick I think.

It gives you the choice of HC or QuEnc.

Well, I was pretty happy with the output from FAVC! After encoding and authoring, IMGBurn opened but couldn't use the file FAVC gave it, but I have TMPG DVD Author so I just took the m2v and mpeg (audio) files created in FAVC and authored there. Turned out quite good! I think the HC encoder did as good a job as TMPGenc used to do for me when I had it......can't recall what version i had but it was a few years back. hand-held camcorder DV is a tough source file and this handled it well!

I'm going to try DVDFlick some time soon also as i think it uses some of the same programs but maybe authors/burns better?

DVD Flick uses ffmpeg for encoding. It is faster, but HCEnc is better quality IMO

oh, I can't use HC in DVDFlick? I'd better check into that because being that I only do 4 or 5 videos per year and it's hand-held Dv footage which is tough to encode, I care about quality, not speed.

btw, these folks that create these free programs and interface programs are life savers! I donate to their sites when i use and like the product and i hope others do also. Some of the pay-for programs are such crap!
