I recently set up a wireless wifi network in y home to share my internet connection on 3 computers on 3 floors of my home. It pretty much set itself up. But I recently received an Audiorequest ARQ-1 from a friend who has moved out of state and didn't need it anymore. The unit is a media jukebox in which you can rip your cd's to the hard disc. I would like to connect it to my laptop in a bedroom and stream music from it on the other computers. Is this possible? It states in the manual I got for it that you can connect it with a crossover ethernet cable. As I said, the setting up of the network was brainless to me and I'm not that experienced to know if this will work or not. How would the unit show up in the network and how would I be able to access it from the other computers? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If nothing else, the jukebox should be visible to other computers on the network in the same way that printers attached to other computers are visible. If the jukebox has folders with music files in them, the folders may be visible in the same way that folders on an external hard drive attached to another computer are visible. Theoretically, the jukebox is probably configured as an external drive on any computer to which it is physically connected. You would need to make sure that the computer to which the jukebox is attached has sharing set up properly so that other computers on the network can see the jukebox.

If the jukebox requires some special software to access and/or play the music files, that software would need to be installed on every computer on which you want to be able to find and play the music files, just like you would need to have the printer driver installed on every computer that wanted to use a printer attached to another computer.

Without knowing more about the setup or the jukebox, I can't think of anything else useful to say.
