I'm not sure if this is the right forum, if it isn't I apologize in advanced.
But does anyone know if Microsofts DV Avi codec is a lossy or lessless format?

DV is a lossy compression if you are starting with uncompressed RGB or YUV video. In terms of capturing from a DV camcorder, the transfer is lossless (barring any problems with the transfer). You get an exact copy of what is on the tape (packaged in an AVI container). Ie, what's on the tape is already compressed with a DV encoder.
