Like some advice from the US members:
I'm looking to buy an Asus eee from US (with a friend living in US as a middle man).
Newegg is out of stock, so is Amazon. Central Computers don't carry the model I'm looking for.
Any other options available (that states if the item is in stock or not)?

No, Google doesn't tell me if the shop is reliable or not.
...and I'm looking for the white 8G version (thanks anyway, bodyslide).
    Anyone familiar with Launchpadonline?

Possibly the most overrated laptop until the MacBook Air was released. If it were $100, it might approach value for money. But for $100 more than the eee you can get a real notebook with a screen that has 4 times the resolution (and uses all the screen area), runs XP (and all the associated apps) and is genuinely useful. Your average PDA is better value for money and more useful than ASUS's glorified LeapPad.

(sorry, had to throw in my 2 cents. It's been that kind of day)

I always value your opinions, even if I don't share it this time.

I suppose the difference is in the way we shop on line.

I google the item; find stores that sell it; then decide on the store I wish to purchase from.
    If I don't know the store then I use ... http://www.resellerratings.com/

    Good Luck.

    Try Pricegrabber.com

I second guns1inger's motion. I know a couple of people who bought those for the "toy" factor, and they are indeed that: toys.

Funny, that is exactly what I thought when I first saw it: a less vibrant Leap Pad

I suppose it's useful for the minimum (web, small documents, um, web?), but definitely not for that price.

Directron is as reliable as NewEgg, IMO.

Apparantly in the next month or two an XP based version will be released. It will be a heavily stripped version of XP, so I don't know what facilities it may have lost or still be able to provide.

All versions (don't know about the 2G Surf model tho) are capable of running XP. There's even instructions included in the package for how to install.
Using nLite, you can strip down an XP install < 140 MB, and have it occupy 250 MB disk space when running.
However, Ubuntu seems like the best OS at the moment for eee (and for most other computers too!)
