Hi, Im new to this forum and have done video editing in the past, but don't understand much about the technical end of it. I have had a relative build my previous systems, but is not available and I need an upgrade. I had pinnacle dv500 in my last system, but gave up on it when sp2 interfered with it. I am now in the process of having my local computer store build me a new system, but I would like to get some ideas on a good video capture card and editing software. I would like to keep the cost of the whole system under or around 2000.00, obviously less if possible.
I video stock car and kart races, I use a Canon GL2. I would appreciate any info, and recommendations on what you have found works best, within my budget. Thanks in advance. Tonya

What other needs do you have? You can cap the GL2 via IEEE-1394 and WinDV. You can cap analog through the GL2.

    Do you need a tuner?
What editing software are you using?
Do you need hardware transition/effects acceleration?

I don't need a tuner. With the old system I was captureing via Pinnacle dv500 and using adobe premier for editing.
I really only did basic editing. Added music, cut out some unwanted footage, added transitions, slow mo and titles, I would like to experiment a little more though. I had 2 monitors set up and I need to continue with that. I make mupltiple copies to sell at the racetracks(sorry I neglected to mention that).
Right now my old system is not functioning at all, I am not sure where the problem is, I can't even access it in safe mode. I really won't know until I get it to the computer shop what I can use and what I can't. The one I have now is probably about 3-4 years old so I don't think its a good move to invest too much into this system.
    Thanks for your help

IEEE-1394 + Premiere Pro gets you started since you already know Premiere. Everything will seem fast relative to the Pentium 1-3 days.
