  1. I have a video from a JVC Everio camcorder which shoots at 720x480 widescreen. However then I try to convert the file to XviD it always turns into 720x480 and I lose the widescreen. What am I doing wrong.

You can set the aspect ratio to 16:9 with mpeg4 modifier. But many software players and hardware players will ignore the aspect ratio in avi xvid files. It's better to convert to a 16:9 frame size directly(1:1 Display Aspect Ratio), like 720x406 ( 720 / 1.77777777777777777).

  3. For future encoding set the Display Aspect Ratio option in Xvid to 16:9.

I have a question, when calculations are given such as 720x480 to 720x406, is this calculation automatically done by the software program ?? Or can it be done on a calculator, if so how ??
    Thanks

  5. 720 * 9 / 16 ~= 406

  7. Note that multiples of 16 or 32 are most efficient when working with MPEG family codecs. So using 720x400 or 704x400 will work a little better even though the AR will be slightly off.
