how to combine dvds without using dvdremakepro

the search feature of this forum does not turn up any nfo,I tried 2 dvd to dvd,etc..
I am wanting to copy some of my tv show movies that are on different dvds to one dvd maybe 4 of themwhile cutting out the credits and themesong.
I do not like the idea of paying 50$ for a program that I am going to use just once,if they would lower the price a lot I might consider it
So how does one do this with freeware tools,I want no recompression and preserving menus/chapters

Demux, use one of the free mpeg-2 cutters, such as cuttermaran, to trim the clips, then author with GUIForDVDAuthor. All free.

Reauthor mode of DVD Shrink if you can live without menus. Import the show, trim start and end, lather, rinse, repeat.
