    a friend of mine is using a cd rom connected to speakers in his cars it use some kind of converter, no cpu to listen to mp3 and audio cds in his car.He even said u could place a tv in his car, connect that cdrom to the and watch ur movies from the cdrom connected to the tv. is this possible or is he just pulling my legs? if it is, do you know how to do that? what hardware i need to connect my cdrom/dvdrom drive directly to a tv with the use of cpu?

    You can do it with a CD ROM drive as all it requires is power and already has a audio output. No converter of any sort needed, just audio out straight into an amplifier. It works but they aren't very good at it as there is no buffer or vibration damping so will skip continually if the car is moving. As there is no video output on a DVD ROM drive, you can't do it with video though.

    If your friend reckons it is possible, give him a DVD ROM drive and tell him to demonstrate it!

    It IS possible to use a CD-ROM drive as a standalone CD player and use the audio out to drive speakers or an amp. However without some form of processor you cannot decode an mp3 and without a soundcard you can't get audio from them.

    The same applies to DVDs (in a DVD Drive) you need some form of decoder and video driver/card to get anything.

    I do file evenings at a local church and we use the tv out of a laptop to connect to a tv and the external vga to onnect to a projector - sound comes from the headphone socket connected directly to the hall sound system. It's cheap and it works.
