  1. I'm using DVD-Lab Pro 2 to author a DVD, and I have a few questions.

    1. I want to know how I can get a menu to be the first played, yet not be root? I've tried to make the menu I first wanted played as root, and changing the behaviours of the other menus to revert to a certain menu once root is pressed. However, it always reverts to the actual root menu. How can I do this?

    2. I have audio loops running on almost all the menus. It seems to me that the audio is not looping, but the actual menu itself if looping and reloading every time the audio ends. How do I make it that the audio loops and not the menu itself?

    Thanks in advance

    1) probably only with pgcedit or ifoedit.

    2) audio and video are muxed during the authoring process. it ends up as one thing. only a longer audio track will delay looping.

Video length determines the loop, not audio. If you want the video to run the length of the audio you have to create the video of the correct length before authoring.

DVD Lab Pro actually tells you that first play can only be a movie or a root menu. PGCDemux might allow you to get around this, however you might then be pushing out of spec, which means it might not work the way you expect on all players.

  4. Naaa, most menus have a picture in the background and not a video, so it is running by the audio length.

Regardless (and yes, for still menus it is audio, for motion menus it is video length), when they get to the end they either stop, move on to the next action, or restart. The DVD Spec doesn't allow for seamless looping of menus.

From within DLP2, you can edit the VM Commands to set values to GPRMs and navigate accordingly.

    A basic flow would be:

    1) edit VM Command of "First Play" to set GPRM5=1
    2) edit Pre commands of the ROOT menu to check if GPRM5=1, then branch to the "other" menu
    3) edit the pre commands of the "other" menu to reset GPRM5=0 (so subsequent entry into ROOT will show the real ROOT)

  7. I don't know how to edit/write VM commands. Don't know syntax or semantics.

PgcEdit is a programming environment of sorts. It won't allow you to make errors in syntax. It's free, so download it, look at some of its guides, then try it and see whether of not the instructions from GeorgeW make sense. If you have a programming background it shouldn't be too difficult.

If you apply the latest updates (2.34) you get a button to do just what you are asking.

I don't think the button will give you the results you are looking for, because I believe it will always override the ROOT (and go to the "first play" menu -- the one you designate as the override menu).

It sounded like you wanted to go to a "First Play" menu when the disc starts, but subsequent presses of ROOT would go to the real ROOT menu.
