I have a PAL DV video which I need to convert for youtube and myspace. Only I just don't know at what values I need to set the black level. Should I keep the black level at 0 IRE or raise it to 7,5 IRE to get the ideal result?

Leave it as is. 7.5 IRE is purely an NTSC-in-North America thing and irrelevant for computer-based viewing.

Ok, good to know that. I had to ask this, because the darker parts of the image looked darker when uploaded on Youtube than when I played the video in my media player. It looks as if the Youtube player lowers the gamma level by an inch. I don't understand why it looks this way, but I believe raising the gamma levels for Youtube would help.
