  1. When I import video from my miniDV camera (by firewire), the resulting files seem to be corrupted. The raw file can be played in media players with no issues, but if VirtualDub opens and saves it, the saving either fails due to corruption or, if I ask it to ignore the corruption, I get random audio clicks throughout the video.

Other than using a tape cleaner, are there software that can be used to process the files and output them as clean ones?

  2. If it plays normally in other media players - including the audio - then I would suggest that it is a VirtualDub anomaly.

  3. If you don't use VirtualDub, how do you go about compressing the file to say xvid?

I'm getting the error "Audio samples #####-##### could not be read in the source. The file may be corrupted."

  4. It does seem like a VirtualDub anomaly. I used DVdate to extract the audio, then imported it to VirtualDub which then outputs a working file.

Had the same problem, so I downloaded the latest version of Vdub, still same error, then I turned on Conversion in Audio, converted to 8bit, 8kHz, Mono and MP3 8kbit, 8kHz Mono and everything went fine.
Of course remember to 'Conceal errors' in Error mode.

Hope this helps someone in the future ! gl
