help w 'unknown' avi file

I have an .avi file, which plays in VLC.

not in QT : "This is not a movie file"

I thought I might convert in into something QT would play. the FastForward and moving the cursor in VLC leaves something to be desired I think.

StreamClip won't open the file (unsupported type), neither would HandBrake

VLC tell me this:

Stream 0 wma2
Stream 1 WMV3

anyideas how I can convert this?

It is a Windows Media File,
is your Flip4Mac component
up to date rotus ( v. 2.2.0.49 is the latest)?

yes its up to date. I figured it was some sort of wmv variant

then in a very rare flash of insight I changed the extention from .avi to . wmv and it opens fine in QT

btw: why does VLC player do so poorly on the slider and fast forward?

VLC: because of the decoding engine used to scrub
through the video. I have this problem on wmv and mkv,
and also on h264 content, but almost never on xvid/divx content.

are those those happy bubbles from the 70'? came in a can and you used it in the bathroom?

You might try iSquint (free from isquint.org) or its big brother
VisualHub ($24) to convert to a QT-friendly format.

scrub= taking the little arrow in VLC and moving it with the mouse
to make it jump forward or backward along the video's timeline....
lol!

follow albloom's suggestion and convert it to something QT likes....

I guess in general Ive found VLC not so good at scrubbing.

now that I changed it from .avi to .wmv it works fine in QT
