  2. DivX Ultra - does it play HD DivX Files?
No. Ultra adds Divx menus, chapters and subtitles (most non-ultra players can play SRT subs).

You can count on one hand the number of current standalone DVD players that can play HD Divx files. Philips makes none of them. All of the players I have seen cost at least $300 US or much much more.

Upscaling has nothing at all to do with the ability to play HD Divx. The ability to play HD Divx has to do with a decoding chip that few manufacturers are currently using, probably because of cost.

The cheapest devices that can play HD Divx are media streamers such as the Popcorn Hour (http://www.popcornhour.com) or iStar (http://www.istarhd.com) devices.

  6. The buffalo linktheater which was selling for $99 can play them. It is a progressive DVD player, with USB and ehternet connectivity. I bought three of them and love them. One for every room.

Regrettably, the Court of Appeals has decided not to stay the injunction in the CSIRO v. Buffalo et al litigation during the appeal period. Although Buffalo is confident that the final decision in the appeal will be favorable and that the injunction will be lifted, Buffalo is presently unable to supply wireless LAN equipment compliant with IEEE 802.11a and 802.11g standards in the United States until that decision is issued.

OK. We understand that you like them. No problem there. I suggest you look at akrakol's post again. Your recommendation is a moot point since Buffalo can't currently sell these players in the USA. I have no idea if they can sell them in the UK.

  10. They still can be found online. There are other brands as well. Like Dlink, and a few others.
