I recently had a rather surprising result to an experiment. I've tried using several capture programs to capture video signals fed through my VCR to my Sony Handycam to my computer via Firewire, none very good quality. I used the camera's built-in analog-DV on the fly convertor. Then I tried recording the signal from the VCR to an 8-mm tape (in the Digital 8 format) and then using Scenalyzer Live 1.3 to capture THAT feed. The result was far higher quality. Is this just a higher quality capture program or does this technique somehow yield better results? I can't understand how it can improve the results if the camera is essentially doing the same thing (it should degrade, if anything). Any clues? Thanks.
