I forgot, can someone tell me where does dvdshrink dump it's files. If I want to clean out my harddrive, I remember that dvdshrink leaves behind the ripped files. I have vista 64 bit & I cannot find the location where those files are stored and left and i wan to clean it up. Thanks.

By default it's somewhere in "My Documents", as far as I can remember.

Try doing a windows search for files with the extension .VOB - that should help you narrow it down.

Do you mean the files it creates after analyzing a movie that you are going to shrink? I'm not sure where they would be located in Vista, but in Windows XP I think they are located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\DVD Shrink.

So you might want to do a search on your computer for any folders called DVD Shrink, and see what that comes up with.

DVDShrink does not leave any temporary files behind. The original video files (that you open with DVDShrink) are still there. I guess the easiest way to find where they are would be to use Windows to search for folders "VIDEO_TS". This search will show all the original videos and the ones shrunk by DVDShrink and you can figure out which one is which.

shrink does leave small randomly named files on your computer. they are used in case you wish to re-do a dvd. it is a timesaving device so the movie doesn't have to be re-scanned. they are where j1d10t says. they are harmless.

..DVDShrink does not leave any temporary files behind...
I would like to add some more info since my previous post is not entirely correct.
    1. If you only use DVDShrink to shrink video files, it does not leave any temporary files behind.
    2. If you use DVDShrink to also burn the shrunk video files to DVD (with option to use Nero checked), it will leave temporary files behind. The location is set up by the user (there may be also a default one) in the first burning session. To find this location again, use DVDShrink to open a VIDEO_TS folder (<4.7 Gb), then click BACKUP, it will give you a summary with location of the temporary folder.

j1d10t hit the nail on the head. And aedipuss is correct... those files are very small (I have 153 files totaling 17.3Mb) and harmless. They are actually useful so that if you have to go back and make a new backup to replace a broken/scratched backup you will not have to re-analyze the video.

j1d10t that's the location i was trying to look for C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\DVD Shrink. but i need it in Vista. Can't seem to find it in Vista. I know the files are harmless and can be useful when ripping again, but i wanted to see how many i have stored and perhaps clean it out. Does anyone know how to find it in Vista, the location. Thanks.

Sorry I can't help there. While I have used computers with vista insalled I don't own a computer with vista on it. Hopefully others can help.

Although I did a quick google search and found this

So you might try looking for folders with those names.
    Good Luck!

You are right. I take back what I said about the temp files. I saw 62 files (702 kb) in my folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\DVD Shrink.

What I referred to earlier are the huge temp files created when one uses DVDDShrink to burn DVD, something that not many people are doing. This will create a huge temp folder. The details are in a DVDShrink guide linked on this site:

    http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/16/59/

(STEP 6: "The "Select folder for temponary files option" ... is the location that DVD Shrink will put the DVD files before burning them. Make sure the hard disk you select has enough free space and that you remember where they are as you have to delete them manually after the burn.").

I guess someone with Nero installed on the PC may choose this option for convenience. Most others would use ImgBurn for the burning step.

Just for clarification but this is a moot point since obviously this is not what mn072065 talks about. I misread the question.

Thanks freebird73717, but i checked those directories and nothing showing dvdshrink. I have to assume that Vista does not leave those temp files behind.

Perhaps if you change your thread title to "DVDshrink - Vista where is Application Data Analysis files?". Then mabee someone that knows more about vista will answer your question.

    np.

BTW, I replied in your other thread - you can see how cross-posting can confuse everyone! Multiple threading is great for computers, confusing to us mere mortals.
