I have a Sony HDR-HC1 high def camcorder and i have captured the video on it to my PC in .m2t files with the specs of
MPEG 2 Video 1440x1080 29.9fps 25000Kbps
MPEG Audio 48000Hz stereo 384kbps
Now what do i convert these files to? I want to keep the picture quality as high as possible.
Do i even need to convert these clips? What i have been doing is playing them on my PC which is hooked up to a HD TV and they look great. Someday i would like to burn them to blu-ray when its less costly so do i need to do anything to them?

what's the goal?
if to archive, I'd back them up all 3 ways below:
1)burn the m2t to a dvd data disc
2)save to another HDD
3)send the m2t back to the cam as a tape backup
don't erase, tape over, or throw away your original tapes
rather keep them for a 4th back up
