Converting VCD *DAT files to AVI

I want to convert the DAT files from a VideoCD to uncompressed AVI. I want to do this so I can convert the finished AVI files over to STR for playback through my Sony Playstation. I already read the article about the possibility of damaging the laser on my PSX! I only want to do a short clip! No more than 2 minutes! Will this VCDGear program let me go from DAT to AVI?? If not, what program will do it??
