I had a movie broken up into two parts, each approximately 700 Mb. The PS3 had absolutely no problem streaming these from my media server. I wanted to combine them into 1 file though to simplify things. I used Virtualdub. Opened part one, moved to the end of the file, appended part 2, made sure video and audio were set to direct stream copy, saved it as a new AVI which ended up around 1.4 Gb (I've read the PS3 limit is 2 Gb?). Everything seemed fine to me. PS3 won't play the resulting file, says it's corrupted. I've tried this a few times now with other movies as well. Am I missing something? A step I should have done but didn't? Did Virtualdub change the files somehow? They do still play perfectly on my PC but the PS3 says they're corrupted. It's a bit frustrating. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!!!

    Hi Spaz.
I've been having the exact same problem. At first I thought it was the DivX codec but after using it with another video converter with same settings I soon realised the codec was not the cause of the problem. After mucking about for ages with virtualdub I found that saving the video as "old format avi" from the file menu the video worked without problems, whether it be streamed or on the ps3 itself. You can still reload the video with virtualdub, set the audio and video to direct stream copy and save it.

    Hope that helps

Please don't take that as the be all and end all of your problem, I am by no means a encoding expert and come here regularly myself for help, I only registered to hopefully help someone with the same frustrating problem. With that in mind, do keep the original file just to be safe.

Just for clarification, could anyone let me know of the difference between the "Save as avi" and "Save as old avi" in virtualdub

    Cheers
