I got so many problems with my laptop it was fixed before now i cant use it at all. The problem started with explorer taskbar not loading correctly. So i wanted to format. But i cant even do that my acer wont even boot up on the cdrom. It just skips it when i choose cdrom. So i tried my xp cd from my old desktop well it turns off in the middle of it so i cant get xp on it at all. Any clue what i can do. Its a acer laptop.

Enter bios and change the bootup options, change hard drive to a non boot option, or it may simply skip the cdrom altogether.

Turning off halfway through install is another problem, could be heat, whats powering it (bad power brick or weak battery),or hard drive is failing (not nice), dont have usb devices connected while trying an install as they can cause erroneous problems.

You might want to start off with the tools from the hard drive manufacturer to test the drive for issues.

A really good method to test the drive is to use an adapter which allows it to be connected to a pc, format it as fat32, then ntfs, yes, people will think its strange, but if it dose not take the reformat back to ntfs, then the drive has proven defective and needs to be replaced.

You may need to disassemble the laptop, checking for dust collecting up around the inlet for the cpu fan, and to remove components.

Another problem common to laptops is the laser lens getting dirty and causing read problems. The laser lens on my laptops is exposed when the tray is open, so it collects a lot of gunk.

My acer laptop has a built in dvd burner. Could a bad ac plug cause over heating and alot of other stuff like it turning off in the middle of xp or not be able to read my recovery cds?

If it can't read the recovery cd's that were it created, then it sounds like the burner is dirty or failing (and also causing the XP loading issue).

Acer laptops require the appropriate power management software to avoid overheating. You must load this from the Acer website. Your desktop's XP system may cause your laptop to overheat and shutdown and cause permanent damage to the laptop.

This has been burning Linux users who try to load their distros on the Acers.

Did some turkey load XP without the power drivers when the "fixed" it?

I do have the laptop running. It still hates the recovery cds. I got it formated with my real xp cd. I used another adaptor for it and it loaded xp just fine. I am using the laptop plug that came with it but i still dont trust it all that much. But its all i got for now.
